Pneumatic Piston Rod Cylinders

What are Pneumatic Piston Rod Cylinders?

Pneumatic cylinders, also called air cylinders, are mechanical equipment that utilizes the power of compressed gas to generate pressure in a straight reciprocating motion. Compressed air enters through a single port in single-acting pneumatic piston rod cylinders, pushing the piston rod in a single direction. The linear movement is then produced by spring mechanisms pulling the rod back in the opposite direction. Air is pushed into and out of double-acting pneumatic rod cylinders through two separate openings.

What are pneumatic piston cylinders used for?

Pneumatic rod cylinders can be utilized in a variety of industrial settings, such as for machinery that automates factories, transports goods, and packages them. These parts are the perfect size for use in small-bore and medium-duty applications, as well as in confined spaces.

Typical applications

Pneumatic cylinders can come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and functions, but they often fit into one of the several types listed below. Pneumatic cylinders come in a wide variety of different varieties as well, many of which are created to carry out operations; a few of them are given below:

  • Single-acting cylinders

A single port on a single-acting cylinder (SAC) permits pressurized air to enter while allowing the rod to only move in one direction. As the cylinder chamber continues to fill, the rod extends due to the high pressure of the compressed air.

  • Double-acting cylinders

Air pressure is used by double-acting cylinders (DAC) to move during both extend and retract strokes. One for outstroke and one for instroke; they each have a port that lets air in. This design has no restrictions on stroke length, but the piston rod is more prone to buckling and bending.

  • Multi-stage, telescoping cylinder

Single-acting or double-acting telescoping cylinders are also referred to as telescopic cylinders. A piston rod nestled within a progression of hollow stages with progressively larger diameters makes up the telescoping cylinder.

What is a pneumatic cylinder used for?

Pneumatic cylinders are frequently employed in the manufacturing sector to open valves and doors, transfer items onto and off conveyor belts, and lift large objects. Pneumatic cylinders serve various purposes in the automobile sector. They are utilized for suspension and braking in vehicles and trucks.
