What are Consumer Units?
A consumer unit also referred to as a fuse board or fuse box is a significant piece of equipment installed in homes and commercial premises. They are manufactured to secure and ensure the durability of electrical appliances from damage, and especially to provide full protection to human beings from electric shock. Consumer units are made available for the monitoring and distribution of power conveyed into the home or workplace. Enrgtech provides a range of potential quality consumer units from well-known brands, including ABB, Wylex, MK Electric, Legrand, and Contactum.
What makes up a Consumer unit?
The Enclosure
Enclosures are commonly made of non-combustible plastic or metal clad. On the inner side of the enclosure is a strip of DIN Rail that ensures the main switch, RCBOs, RCDs MCBs can be mounted reliably and securely.
Main Switch
This is the grand switch that automates the electricity supply to households and industrial applications, and only this lets you turn the power supply on and off. All the devices embedded in the enclosure are automated by the prime switch.
RCDs
The incomer device that supplies electricity to the circuit breakers is a residual current device. It will trip rapidly and cut off the supply to the MCBs when an imbalance exists. They are made specially to shield you against electric shock.
MCBs
Equipment and appliances are shielded from electrical overcurrent using miniature circuit breakers, designed to trip out and immediately turn off when a defect is found.
RCBO’s
A device called residual current overload combines the capabilities of an MCB with an RCD. Designed to offer protection from both earth leakage and current overload. They are typically utilized on crucial circuits like freezers, Alarm Systems, and some lighting rings.
