What is a Disposable Respirator?
A disposable respirator, commonly called “Dust Masks”, is a cup-shaped mask worn over the nose and mouth. These are held in place by elasticated straps running behind the head. The primary purpose of this respirator is to avoid breathing in unwanted, lethal and harmful particles that come within the particular working space that could harm the wearer.
These respirators are designed to filter out harmful particles and substances, allowing only clean air to be breathed. The type of mask is needed according to the working condition as these masks will only protect at limited levels, while some might protect from various hazards.
Types and Benefits:
Disposable N-95 respirators
- A disposable N-95 is the most common type of disposable mask.
- · It is made of a high-quality material that filters 95% of airborne particles.
- · In addition, this respirator does not have oil-resistant materials.
- · In case of an emergency, you should replace the disposable N-95 with another one. It is highly recommended to wear an N-95 respirator for six months to avoid the spread of SARS.
FFP2 respirators
FFP stands for “filtering facepiece”, with the number at the end indicating the level of protection. Some filtering facepiece respirators also come with “NR” at the end of their name, which means “not reusable”. FFP2 and N95 face masks are not the same, but studies show no material difference between their effectiveness. The features that make the disposable FFP2 an excellent choice for a variety of environments are mentioned below;
- · FFP2 features an effective multi-layer filtration material.
- · They are made from a multi-layer filtration material and offer adequate protection from various non-toxic dust.
- · They are easy to use and can be reusable or washable.
- · In addition to the N95 facepiece respirator, you can also purchase a particulate-filtering disposable mask.
- · The FFP2 is a versatile, economical, and durable respirator.
- · It provides adequate protection against toxic and non-toxic dust.
- · It has an adjustable nose clip and an inner nose foam for softness.
- · Its staple-free construction and an invisible nose bridge make it highly preferred.
- · This mask is also available in a reusable model.
FFP3 respirators
FFP3 respirators and other different types of available
respiratory protection masks. Although FFP3 respirators are frequently referred to as dust masks or pollution masks, they are much more.
- · They are made to keep you safe from infectious agents and pollution.
- · They are a helpful asset in the fight against COVID-19 because they provide excellent protection against even tiny pollutants (diameter less than 0.3 microns).
- · In severely hazardous places and at work, medical professionals worldwide chose FFP3 respirators as their preferred Personal Respiratory Equipment (PPE).
Conclusion:
The importance of wearing disposable respirators cannot be understated. Masks, usually cup-shaped and others, are in the market in different colours like white, black or blue. A few other types, including valves and without valves, with adjustable nose clips, each function for specific environments, are also available.
