A Low voltage differential signaling integrated circuit is a piece of electronic semiconductor equipment with a balanced digital transmission mechanism. Low voltage differential signaling is also known as TIA/EIA-644. LVDS integrated circuits incorporate a trait that allows them to be operated at low power and high speeds with the help of copper cables.

Types of LVDS interface ICs

Low voltage differential signaling integrated circuits are available in a wide range of distinct types of specifications in the industry today, such as:

  • An LVDS buffer - An LVDS buffer, referred to as a fanout buffer, is a semiconductor integrated circuit (IC) capable of producing numerous copies of the input signal and dispersing them across several loads with a quick rise and fall time and low jitter. Additionally, the voltage swing can be altered externally. The input and output interfaces of the ICs use current-mode logic (CML), which is intended to carry data across standard PCBs at speeds ranging from 312.5 MBps to 3.125 GBps. These can also be purchased with an LVDS repeater.
  • LVDS Serialized and deserialized - A serializer converts continuously moving data into a serial number of a high-speed, low-voltage differential signaling data stream. The deserializer takes the serial output of a serializer and does a reverse operation to convert it back to parallel format. Different types of integrated circuits are available, whilst programming for STP input is reverse compatible with all Gigabit Multimedia Serial Link serializers. 
  • LVDS receivers - Devices that implement LVDS characteristics are called LVDS receivers. Some receivers include flowthrough pin configurations, allowing simple PCB layout, input and output signal separation, and extremely low power consumption.
  • LVDS repeaters - Integrated circuits that are used as repeaters—offer standalone input and output signals with the help of LVDS technology. This equipment is typically manufactured to accept a standalone LVDS input and repeat the signal at one direction output.
  • LVDS transmitters - A low voltage differential signaling transmitter integrated circuit distributes power at a constant voltage into wires, which in turn determines the direction of the current of the digital logic level.
