Battery management refers to the class of battery devices or integrated circuits (ICs) used in battery-powered applications to provide and manage efficient and safe charging. Integrating battery management ICs into multiple electronic circuits (as they are more complex) supports and helps low standby power use and enables them to last longer. The battery management ICs are ideal for being used with various battery types, such as Li-Ion, lead-Acid, NiCD, NiMH, Lithium-Polymer, LiFePO4, and many more. 

What is a battery management system (BMS)?

A battery management system refers to electronic circuits designed to protect and monitor a wide variety of rechargeable batteries, increasing their lifespan. These batteries are protected by various devices within the battery management system, such as gauges, charge controllers, and surge protectors.

What different types of battery management ICs are there?

The battery management ICs consist of different types of components suited for various ranges of applications. These include:

These chargers are used with rechargeable batteries or battery packs that provide efficient battery charging while keeping them in a cool condition. 

  • Battery Monitors

Battery monitors, also called battery backup managers, monitor the battery's performance, such as its voltage, temperature, and current, to protect batteries from any damage. These battery-monitors also provide additional backup power in case of power draining.
