What are Analog to Digital Converters (ADC)?

Analog to digital converters are abbreviated as ADCs. These are devices that convert analog input signals into digital output signals, for instance, a sound observed from a microphone or light entering a modern camera. These analog inputs are transformed into a format or digital signals via a speaker or picture on display. ADCs sample the input signals at predetermined points in time, which lowers the input signal's permitted bandwidth for better efficiency.

What is the Purpose of an Analog-to-Digital Converter?

Utilizing a mathematical operation known as quantization, audio analog to digital converters record and transform analog sounds into digital signals. Instead of continuing to reduce noise creation, this conversion happens on occasion. High-frequency low- to medium-resolution video analog to digital converters are used to convert analog video data into digital video signals, such as displays on digital cameras.

Types of Analog to Digital Converters

The most commonly used types of ADCs are:

Flash - Flash ADCs are considered the quickest method to transform an analog signal into a digital signal. Moreover, these are suitable for applications even if the bandwidth is so large, such as satellite communications, radar processing, sampling oscilloscopes, and data acquisition. 

Successive Approximation - A consecutive approximation Analog to Digital Converters (ADC) transform continuous analog waveform into digital with the help of binary search via all quantization levels before the integration of digital output for each transformation. 

Sigma-Delta - Sigma delta ADCs transform the signal by using factors and filters of the suitable signal. Here, high resolution has been provided, and low power expenditure is installed in applications such as process control, temperature measurement, and weighing devices.
