Earthing Straps

What are Earthing Straps?

Earthing straps are also referred to as grounding straps, allowing a connection between an electrical system and the conductive surface of the earth for reliability and security. They have the potential to offer an outlet for overcurrent if a fault or malfunction has been undergoing in the system, making sure the flow of the current to the earth is uninterrupted.

Earth straps are used by means of antistatic equipment. Some equipment is very sensitive, and the technician who works with them must take care if there is a static charge that is building up. With that, sparks caused equipment destruction.

How do Earth Straps offer security?

When the fault occurs within the device, earth straps offer strong protection by implementing current take away from the device or worker into the ground. If the equipment receives a voltage that is too high, the circuit should be protected by using a device such as a thermal magnetic Circuit Breaker.

What are the types of Earth Straps?

In the industry today, earth straps are widely classified into two popular types: some of them are used on humans, and the other on equipment directly.

Antistatic earth straps are adjusted around your wrist and make a connection using a clamp with a ground conductor. Equipment earth straps are the exact rounded equipment and are used to link with a ground conductor by using an Earthing Wire.
